Kloof Road slope stabilisation project now completed

On Thursday, 27 November 2025, the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, together with Ward 54 Councillor Nicola Jowell and senior Road Infrastructure Management (RIM) officials, visited the recently completed Kloof Road slope stabilisation project in Clifton.
‘The Kloof Road slope stabilisation project was initiated after a section of the embankment below Nettleton Road in Clifton collapsed in July 2020. Temporary stabilisation measures were implemented in 2021 to ensure safety, while the permanent solution was being designed. After visiting the site, I am proud to commend the excellent quality of the completed work – from the ground anchors and sprayed-concrete stabilisation to the reshaping and drainage upgrades to mitigate future erosion. The roadside parking has also been reconstructed with new asphalt surfacing.
‘Parts of the concrete surface now have stone-clad finishes that blend in with the surrounding environment. This project has been more than just restoring a slope. It’s about protecting public infrastructure, safeguarding nearby properties and making this area safer for all road users,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The stop-go system will be removed and Kloof Road reopened to two-way traffic as soon as the minor finishing touches are complete.
